ETSY HELP, MADE SIMPLE
How do I find the right keywords for my Etsy listings?
Start with the product and the buyer’s need. Write down clear phrases, check what those searches bring up, and compare available demand and competition data. Choose words that match your item. Use them naturally in the title and spread relevant ideas across your tags.
You’re describing a real product to a real buyer. Start there.
Let’s work through itFind buyer language
Here’s where I’d start.
A phrase can have lots of searches and still be wrong for your listing. I’d rather help you reach a person who wants your item than chase a big number that does not fit.
Build a small phrase list
Write down what it is, what it is made of, who uses it, and any detail that makes it useful. For a wooden stand, that might include the device it holds, its size, or how it sits on a desk.
Check each phrase against the product
Look at Etsy search results and the search terms already bringing visits to your shop. Use research data where available, but treat estimates as clues. Remove phrases that describe something you do not sell.
Give the title and tags clear jobs
Write a readable title that names the product and key details. Use all 13 tags with relevant multi-word phrases. Each tag can be up to 20 characters. Avoid filling the spaces with near-identical phrases.
LET’S MAKE IT REAL
Let’s build a keyword starting list.
Example product: a solid oak phone stand with a charging slot. These are ideas to research, not verified high-demand terms.
| Buyer angle | Phrase to check | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Product | wood phone stand | Names the item and material. |
| Specific material | oak phone holder | Matches the actual wood. |
| Use | desk phone stand | Describes where it is used. |
| Feature | charging slot stand | Use only if that feature is clear and useful. |
Example title: “Oak Phone Stand with Charging Slot for a Desk.” Keep only details that are true. The stand is not a charger, so don’t describe it as one.

A FEW MORE QUESTIONS
Before you get back to your shop.
Should I use eRank, EverBee, or Etsy’s tools?
A tool can help you compare ideas, but no score replaces knowing your product and buyer. Check what data the tool provides, how recent it is, and whether the phrase fits.
Can ChatGPT find the best keywords for me?
It can help brainstorm wording. Its suggestions are not proof of search demand. Check them against your item and available search data before using them.
Should every tag use different words?
Aim for useful variety, not forced variety. Avoid wasting spaces on the same idea over and over. A necessary product word may appear in more than one relevant phrase.
