ETSY HELP, MADE SIMPLE
How should I price my Etsy products?
Start with the full cost of making and selling the item, including your time. Add room for profit, then compare similar products and the value you offer. Check the math again if you run a sale or pay for ads. The cheapest price is not automatically the best price for your business.
Your time belongs in the price, too.
Let’s work through itPrice with a purpose
Here’s where I’d start.
Looking at a competitor’s price is useful. Copying it without knowing your own costs is risky. Let’s find what your order actually leaves you.
Count more than materials
Include making time, packaging, shipping you pay, selling fees, and a share of overhead. If you use print on demand, include the production partner’s charges. If you sell files, remember creation time, software, and support.
Check the fees that apply to you
Etsy charges listing, transaction, and payment processing fees. Processing rates vary by country, and extra fees may apply. Use your Payment account and current Etsy guidance rather than assuming one flat percentage covers everything.
Compare the right products
Compare similar materials, size, finish, service, and delivery. A custom hand-stitched bag and a basic mass-produced bag are different offers. Show the details that explain your value.
LET’S MAKE IT REAL
A $40 order can leave less than you think.
Illustrative dollars per order. The $4 fee allowance is an example, not a universal Etsy fee rate.
| Part of the order | Amount |
|---|---|
| Revenue, including any shipping charged | $40 |
| Materials | −$10 |
| Your labor | −$12 |
| Packaging and shipping | −$6 |
| Example selling-fee allowance | −$4 |
| Amount left | $8 |
That $8 still has to cover any costs not included here. A $5 discount would leave $3 if the other costs stayed the same. Recheck fees and tax treatment for your location.
Check what one order leaves you.
Enter your own amounts, including any shipping charged in revenue. Add actual fees for your location. This is a cost worksheet, not an automatic Etsy fee calculator.
Example USD amounts. Include overhead and any other relevant costs for a fuller estimate. This does not calculate income tax or your country’s fee rules.

A FEW MORE QUESTIONS
Before you get back to your shop.
Should I offer free shipping?
Shipping still costs money even if the buyer sees “free.” Decide how to cover that cost and compare the full order price. Choose the approach that fits your product and market.
Should I lower prices if I have no sales?
Not as the first guess. Check traffic, photos, demand, and product details too. If you test a price change, know how much margin you can give up.
Is Etsy revenue the same as profit?
No. Revenue is the money from sales. Profit is what remains after the relevant business costs. Your bank deposit is not a complete profit calculation either.
