ETSY HELP, MADE SIMPLE
Why have my Etsy sales suddenly dropped?
Sales can fall because fewer people visit, fewer visitors buy, or demand changes. Compare the same length of time and check the same season last year if you can. Then look for listing, stock, shipping, or shop changes. A slow day alone does not explain the cause.
Don’t change everything out of panic. Find the change first.
Let’s work through itFind what changed
Here’s where I’d start.
When a shop that was selling goes quiet, it’s easy to blame the algorithm. Your own numbers can give you a better starting point. Separate a traffic problem from a buying problem.
Compare fair time periods
Look at equal periods with the same mix of weekdays. Check the same season last year if you have the data. A holiday rush and a normal week are not a fair comparison.
Find where the drop happened
Check visits, orders, and the share of visits that became orders. Look at traffic sources and your strongest listings. Is the whole shop slower, or did one popular item lose ground?
Review what changed
Check for sold-out items, expired listings, longer delivery dates, price changes, shop notices, and recent edits. Also consider seasonal demand and new competition. Write down a likely cause before you test a fix.
LET’S MAKE IT REAL
Two shops. The same sales drop. Different next steps.
These made-up numbers show why the diagnosis matters. Conversion here means orders divided by visits.
| Example | Before | After | First thing to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shop A | 1,000 visits · 20 orders | 500 visits · 10 orders | Traffic fell; conversion stayed at 2%. |
| Shop B | 1,000 visits · 20 orders | 1,000 visits · 10 orders | Traffic held; conversion fell to 1%. |
Shop A should investigate traffic sources and visibility. Shop B should inspect the offer and the kind of visitors arriving. Neither example proves the cause on its own.
How much did orders change?
Choose equal time periods, then check visits separately to help find the cause.
Example numbers are prefilled. A percentage change does not prove an algorithm change or identify the cause.

A FEW MORE QUESTIONS
Before you get back to your shop.
Does a sales drop mean Etsy changed the algorithm?
Not necessarily. Your numbers alone cannot prove that. Check your own shop, traffic sources, demand, and season before deciding on a cause.
Should I rewrite every listing?
Save your current wording and start with a small, clear test. Changing everything at once makes it harder to tell which change helped or hurt.
Should I increase my ads budget to recover sales?
Only after you understand the problem and your margins. More paid traffic may not help if shoppers are leaving because of price, delivery, or an unclear product.
